ars poetica

The following are my own written poems for the CW 120 (Poetry class) with Sir Ricky de Ungria. Just thought of sharing them and maybe it would spark up inspiration so I can go back to writing poems again…just maybe! :D

(a free verse with dialogue)

SONG FOR MOTHER

“What’s the use of dreaming?”

You always tell me,

As I play my guitar

Alone in my room.

“Music will get you nowhere,”

You repeated like an old record player

But I could only listen

To the chords of my guitar.

“I wish you’d clean the closet

or do the laundry sometimes,”

You said, but mother,

I also wish you’d hear the song I wrote for you.

(accentual verse)

HOME

I submerged my body

Into the depths of the ocean,

With its chilling blue waters

Beyond the soul-stirring waves.

Under the carrot sky,

Fishes swam along with me,

But I do not have those fins.

And this is not my home.

(free verse)

PACKAGE OF APPLES

People are singing Jingle Bells again,

While I listen to them

without the usual merriment of a child.

A lantern solely adorns the house,

and I sit here alone

You are on the other side of the globe.

I count the stars, like I count the months

until you return home.

By the door, I sat still.

I was expecting your arrival,

not a box of big, red apples.

(free poem)

OLD BOX

Each time I open my closet

I see an old box

filled with dolls, stuff toys and playthings

but I no longer shudder

at the shadows of my past that

c r e e p

through my flesh

as memories are stirred

like the dust that I

s l o w l y

sweep off this old box.

  1. HOME

    I submerged my body

Into the depths of the ocean,

    With its chilling blue waters

    Beyond the soul-stirring waves.

    Under the carrot sky,

    Fishes swam along with me,

But I do not have those fins.

And this is not my home.

    - i wonder how the sky turns into a carrot? lol this poem is already a masterpiece!
